In case you have seen yesterday’s vlog or follow me on Instagram, you may already know that I went to Newcastle for less than 48 with Barbour. It was my with time outside of London in the U.K. and I was more than excited to visit it! Despite the weather, we had such a good experience of the city and of course with the Barbour team, who treated us so well. Scroll down below to discover a bit with me and maybe get some tips on what to do in Newcastle in case you are visiting it too!
We stayed at the Crowne Plaza which was absolutely perfect! Located very central, easy to access by car and a nice and big hotelroom. Not to forget about the breakfast; from a typical British breakfast (red. eggs, beans and black pudding) to croissants and yoghurt with fruits. Basically all you need!
Newcastle has a lot of beautiful architecture to offer. From the typical English architecture, to more arty-objects. What I personally really loved were all the bridges over the city. Super photogenic and definitely something unique!
Of course there is the ‘old castle‘ as well which is worth a visit. Not very big, but beautiful anyway. It is surrounded by green, bridges and even some street-art!
Told you there are a lot of bridges! The blue one along the ‘Gateshead Quayside‘ must be the most spectacular. It is one of the biggest and from one side it has a great view of the musical theatre ‘Sage Gateshead Concert hall‘. Which I had more time to visit it because from the outside it looks already spectacular!
Since we only stayed for just two days, we could have dinner at just two places as well. Happily we had the Barbour team who knows the city well and took us to two great restaurants. If you’re in for a typical British dinner, with beers, ‘heavy food’ and a cozy atmosphere, than ‘The Broad Chare‘ is a good place to go.
The other place we visited was called ‘Colmans Fish&Chips‘ and was a really great place to go. Located at the seaside, the restaurant has an amazing view and really good seafood. If you’re not in for fish&chips than don’t worry. They have great other plates and salads as well!
Of course, if you are in Newcastle, the ‘Barbour house‘ is worth a visit. They have a great store close to the factory where you can shop a lot of wonderful pieces from the Barbour collection. So if a classic wax coat is still a little too high-end for you, you must give it a try and maybe be lucky with a very special offer!
THE SEA SIDE
Newcastle has a great sea side and is definitely worth a visit. Even if the weather is not as good, the view is spectacular. They have a beautiful big ‘Herd Groyne‘ which is a great place to take some photos. On the other side you have a view over some ruins, which we weren’t able the visit unfortunately. Hopefully next time!
