Working from home is not always easy. You have to motivate yourself to work every day again, because you don’t have a boss that is telling you what to do. Since 2,5 years I am being my own boss, working from home so I feel like I can tell a little bit about my experience when it comes to productivity. Because yes, I also had the struggle. At first you think that working from your pajamas really is possible and that you can work in the evenings as well, but as far as my experiences go, I can tell the opposite. So for all the hard home-workers, boss-babes and freelancers; here are my golden rules and tips to boost your productivity when you are working from home!
PLAN YOUR DAYS
One of the first things that really helped me out, is planning my days. I have a personal agenda, a work agenda, a blog calendar and a daily to-do list. Might sound a lot, but it is really easy to keep track on the things you want and need to do. For me, this really is one of the best ways to be productive and finish a working day earlier than plannend!
Like I already said, you can work in your pajamas when you work from home, but if it is smart to do so? When I am dressed, I feel much more energized to start working. Compared to when I am still in my sweatpants and work from the couch. So get up, dress up and work mode ON!
BREAK FROM WORK
Planning your days also means planning a break. When you start early, let’s say 8:30 am, you can have a little coffee break (away from your laptop) for like 10 minutes. Do something that reset your brain so you have a fresh eye when you continue working. Do the same during lunch time around 1:00 pm and in the afternoon around 3:00 pm. Walking around outside can really help to reset the brain as well, so do a little grocery, a wash or just get some fresh air.
PLAN TIME FOR YOURSELF
A break doesn’t mean time for yourself. Time for yourself is just free time. If you are your own boss, you can work all day and at any time of the day. I used to start late and work until late, but it made me so unhappy. Now I wake up at 7:00 am everyday and start working after getting dressed, having my breakfast and watching the news. Early days also means finishing earlier. The time that has left it time for yourself. Just stop working, tomorrow is another day, and do something you like. Go to the gym, work out that lazy ass and cook a delicious heathy dinner afterwards!
CREATE A NICE WORKING SPACE
This must be one of the most important things to get motivated to work; having a nice working space. No matter if you work from home or an office, a nice area to work at is important to stay happy with your day task. I still work from my dining table and I have to admit that it is not really comfortable. But at least I have all the things I need around me that also make me happy. My colorful planner and agenda for example. Small things can make a big difference! Read more tips on how to create a perfect working space here!
HAVE A PRODUCTIVE MORNING
Like I already mentioned; having a productive morning can really make your working day. For me it is such a change since I started to do this. A tip that might be even better is to start working off your to-do list with the things you like less, so you have the easiest and most fun things for later! The sooner you finish the job, the sooner it is time for something nice, or for YOU-time!
