Let me tell you a little bit about myself. And with this I am not talking about the things you know yet, but things that might come as a surprise for you. It didn’t happen from one day to another that I became an independent, confident woman. This was a looooong way for me and often I feel I am still not there. Through the years of developing myself I learned a lot, especially on how to be yourself. Like I said, this doesn’t happen from one day to another and I think we human beings will always be looking for who we are – needless to say that this can change year by year -, but it will makes us so much happier if we can already show a little bit of ourselves to the world, starting today.
The reason why I am saying this, is I know how hard it can be to go ‘naked’. People who are theirselves will always be judged by others. But believe me when I say that this all comes out of jealousy and insecurity from people who can’t show who they really are. ‘Brining the other down to make yourself look better’ isn’t the right way, even tough many people still believe this. Since I live in Amsterdam I can say that I am more myself than I have ever been. I like to experiment with fashion and do crazy on the streets. Compared to when I lived at my parents place (a farmers area in the middle of nowhere. Really, most Dutch people haven’t even heard of it before), when I still had this little filter now and then. Yes, I dressed, danced and talked the way I wanted to, yet the direct judgements made me so insecure as well.
What really helped me through the years was blogging. You guys made me believe in myself and made me feel like I am really good at something: inspiring people with my way of dressing and thinking. While I first felt insecure while wearing this beautiful tulle skirt, I now rock them on the streets in the city and yes, this does something good with your ego. People notice I feel happy and good with myself and that’s (I think) the main reason why you attract people. I have more friends than I ever had whom I all met at the most strange and fun ways. Now let’s come to a point, because how do we do that, accepting ourselves? I can make it a long talk, but all I really want to say is that you have to be happy with yourself and only do things that make you happy. Find your strengths and show them to the world. When you do this you’re even allowed to show your crazy side (like singing on the streets even if you have a terrible voice..), because people also know how serious you can be.
Your skirt is majestic, I just need to get the same one, it’s so girly! I love the way you’ve styled this outfit, it’s so chic. π You’re such a gorgeous young lady and I love the way you’re thinking and expressing yourself. Never be sorry for being who you are because being true to yourself will never go “out of style”. π
You’re so right about how we are always developing, growing, changing and yeah, you are a big inspiration . Your style is awesome and now I really want to get myself that tulle skirt to jump around and look as pretty as you! Beautiful!
Well, blogging truly helps and I couldn’t agree more that putting others down to make yourself feel better is just so so wrong. You look so beautiful. http://sophieatieno.com

I just love this outfit, it’s stunning ! Is it the skirt that you wore last year for Paris Fashion week or a similar one ? I remember that skirt and I had a real crush on it … and on this one too ! I really enjoyed reading your article about confidence through fashion. That resonates with me, truly. I feel the same thing when I’m wearing sometimes original clothes and when I play with fashion by mixing clothes.
Anyway, you look very radiant in this nice outfit !
Have a lovely day,
Such a sweet post! I love this outfit so much, so fun and girly with the skirt but grounded with the snake shoes and great bag!
Thanks so much for sharing!
