HOW TO GET OVER THAT WINTER DEPRESSION

You always hear people complaining about winter depressions. They get bored of the weather – the cold, the grey sky, the rain… – don’t want to wear their winter clothes anymore and desire to the days where the sun is shining until 10pm. Summer always sound so much better, right? So how to get over that winter depression??

As a real winter person living in the Netherlands, I have to admit I am also this type of person who is complaining about the weather as well. When the weather forecast is only telling me that it is going to rain this week, I immediately want to pack my stuff and move to a warm country, or to the mountains where they at least have snow. Anything but a country where it doesn’t rain so much. The end of January I always find the hardest. Spring feels still so far and I have to do my best to keep up the good vibes. Try to not complain about the weather so much, and make the best out of the rainy days Mother Nature is giving us.

So instead of complaining and closing our eyes for winter, it is time to do the opposite and make the best out of these days. Here are our tips:

PAMPER

There is nothing we love more than pampering ourselves. Take the time on an easy Sunday or at night after a busy day of working to pamper yourself. Take a hot bath or shower, find a suitable mask, finally use that body cream an relax for a moment. Especially before bedtime you can’t do better for yourself!

WATCH SERIES

When it is summer, it is a waste of time to watch tv, movies or series. That is why winter is the best excuse! There are plenty of series to watch and follow, so make it yourself cozy with a cup of tea and put your tv or laptop on as soon as it gets dark.

READ A BOOK

If watching a series is not really your thing, than go ahead with a good book! Self-education books, a sweet roman or an exciting thriller; there is plenty to read these coming weeks! Besides that, it is also much healthier for you than all the LED-light and it helps for a good night rest. Double win!

SHOP SALE

Sale is still going strong, so why not get some last minute sale items? We get bored of our winter closet, but as soon as we can wear something new, we get excited again. There are plenty stores with massive discounts, so go out to shop or open your computer in case it is pouring  rain ;-).

WORK MORE

Want to go on that super expensive holiday to the other side of the world? Than this is your moment to work extra hard and safe that money! Of course you need to skip the sale shopping tip and really work your ass off to reward yourself with something you really want (to do) later.

SLEEP EARLY

These darker days and lack of sunlight makes you more tired. Instead of complaining about this constant tired feeling, you should take your moment and go to bed early. No way to feel better after a good night rest! Camomile tea before going to bed really is one of the best secrets, same as pampering yourself.

Last but not least; if you want to have that summer this summer and achieve your goals, than get off your lazy ass and work out! No excuses, this time you are really going to the gym to work on those abs and your butt. Working out is not only fun, it also helps you to feel more energized and satisfied.
