The most expensive month of the year is nearby, so I thought it was a good idea to share my ‘how to shop like a pro‘ tips with you. Sale period is coming close and also the Holidays are around the corner, which both means you have to buy presents for your loved ones, but also getting the stuff you want with discount. But how to not get crazy during these sales and Holiday temptations (hey Black Friday and Cyber Monday, do you hear me?!). Without further blabla, let’s share my 5 best questions with you which you should ask with every buy you do.
WISHLIST: Do I need it?
Besides the fact that I really enjoy making one, having a wishlist is the key to successful spending. I have one in my phone which I update weekly. No better feeling than removing an item because I’ve got it. I have to admit, my wishlist is extreme. That’s why I categorised it (from clothes, shoes, bags, accessories and others) and rank each item from Need to One day.. In this way I know the items I really want this season and which I am looking for, but doesn’t have a rush. Thanks to my wishlist I spent 50% less than I did before, so you guys it’s time to make one!
MUST: Is it a trend of wardrobe essential?
Something you can always invest in arethe real wardrobe essentials such as a well fitted jeans, a white shirt, a cashmere sweater and a silk scarf. Of course, you shouldn’t have more than 10 pieces of each of them, but still it is something you can’t get enough from. So ask yourself a question when you buy something new; Is it something I would wear for the rest of my life, or is it a trend itemthat I just like now and not wear after 3 months?
WEARABILITY: What is it made of and can I wash it?
Quality over quantity people! Rather buy one cashmere sweater than 5 polyester ones. Seriously, nothing last longer than good quality, so checking the labels before you buy it is a real must. Where is the product made of and can I easily wash it? If you find this hard, than try to look for items that exist more than 50% of any kind of wool, cotton or silk. If you can check these you really know that you have a good product.
SALE: Would I buy it full price?
During the sale period it’s so tempting to get the items you see and like, but honestly, do you really love them? Is it on your wishlist? If not, is it something you still don’t have or is it another black sweater? At last, would I buy the item if it wasn’t in sale? Because yes, even 20% off sounds good but if you wouldn’t buy it full priced, you probably shouldn’t buy it now.
FIT: Is it really my size?
Never buy an item that doesn’t fit, never. Shoes that are too small: NO. Jacket that is too tight: NO. The only thing you can say yes to is when it is (a little) too big. You can wear an extra sole in a pair of shoes if you need to and oversized sweaters are always the best, but don’t buy it to buy it because it was in sale. Plus, always try on your clothes and shoes. It may look your size and the row in front of the changing room may look long, but if you come home and it doesn’t fit you will blame yourself for that.
Love your look. That blouse is gorgeous! I watch items that I love if it is something that goes on sale and I have been watching it and waiting for it to go on sale, I will get it. Rarely do I buy full price. I wait. impatiently.
I also like evaluating if the pieces are something everyone else has!! Sometimes, i am looking for those pieces (like your basics–turtlenecks and so on) but sometimes I want a stand out piece—like your booties! I’m in love with those booties!!
