We all know these days, when we feel really useless and that everything that we do just doesn’t work. I used to hate these unproductive days. I am this type of person who needs to keep herself busy. Most of the time work related of course. Even when I am on holiday I find it so hard to lay down and relax, but it is actually so important to do that now and then. Not only for our mental health, but also to see things differently and get new inspiration. I finally start learning that an unproductive day now and then isn’t that bad to have, so here are my 5 tips for you to appreciate them as well.
1. Don’t worry too much about it
This is probably the most difficult part, letting it all go. Tell yourself that it is okay to do nothing productive for a day, especially if you had an intense week. In case you missed it, I highly suggest reading the post ‘Why you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself‘ as well since there might be some useful tips in it to appreciate the hard work we all do a little bit more.
2. If the day is already unproductive, make it at least a good one
Don’t try too hard to make it a productive day. Instead of worrying you should actually enjoy this day ‘off’. Make a home-spa (or take one), catch up on your favorite series and most important: get your sleep! Your body will be thankful for it the next day.
3. Get small things done
The big things are for tomorrow, when you’re in the working mood again. But instead of doing totally nothing, you can also do some small bits of work that you haven’t done in a while. Clean your closet for example and sell the stuff you don’t wear any more, which is actually really fun to do +plus you might earn some extra money.
4. Make a to do list
As I already said, I always feel restless, in need to do something useful. But when I have a day when I can literally do nothing, I just write down a to-do-list to at least see what I need to do the next day or the rest of the week. When I did this I can at least relax a little more because I am sure I won’t forget anything I need to do the next day.
5. Find a mood motivator
At last, the only thing we need to do is to protect ourself from getting depressed because we are actually doing nothing. Instead of having deep conversations with yourself you need to find a mood motivator. Whether it’s a funny movie, shopping on- or offline or get yourself some really good food (my fav). These things will make your lazy day much more fun.
And what about you? What are your tips to actually enjoy a non-day? Tell me in the comments!
I always try to do at least something useful on unproductive days, e.g. wash my make up brushes or something. Even if it just this small thing I’ve managed to do, it prevents me from feeling like I’ve wasted the entire day doing absolutely nothing π
Finding a mood motivator is major for me when I have those unproductive days, and finding the motivation to get out of the house / off the couch! Love this post!
Such great tips! These days are the worst, it would be lovely to turn them around like this. I will try it next time I hit a day without motivation π
Hele goeie tips! Het belangrijkste is inderdaad.. niet al te druk om maken (tenzij je een scriptie de volgende moet inleveren.. en je hebt nog maar 1 kantje geschreven. :P)
