No fancy talking or bright outfit photos today. No, Today I want to share with you a special project I recently started with stylist Amy ter Burg and FOREO. It is a campaign about the awareness of our earth, about our sea to be more specifically. You might all know about the plastic problem we have in our beloved ocean. There is a continent made out of plastic, floating in the Pacific and we have this problem for years now. We, human beings, have been consuming so much plastic over the years, that the problems are getting bigger and worse. Time for a change. There are many charities out there who are giving all their power to stop the pastic problem and now, when it seems like we are doing our best for it, a new problem came up.
Something I didn’t had any idea about, and which shocked me even more that the continent, was the microbeads of plastic we are using in our cosmetica products every day again. Think about bodyscrubs, shampoos and toothpaste. Microbeads, hmm. What does this mean for Mother Nature? It is simple. We buy and use the products, mostly while using water (shower etc.). These small pieces of plastics, which we wash off our bodies, is coming in the water where the fish will eventually see it as plankton and eat it. Yes you can guess it, we eat the fish and get the plastic in our bodies. So you can basically say that microbeads are not only harmful for our dear world, but also for ourselves.
Since a few years I try to only buy products without plastic. No more plastic bags while shopping or when doing groceries and separating every bit of trash I have in my home. In this way we will make it much easier to recycle our trash instead of wasting it. But what about the baby plastics? When I have heard of it for the first time, I also got the know the app Platsics! which is a free download and where you can check all your cosmetics at home by scanning the barcode. It seemed like I didn’t did it that bad and only had to skip just a few things from my bathroom. But what if we will all do this? We will keep our world much healthier right?
Another way to help and save the ocean, is to support charities in their journey. Or to not only buy that product from your list without a reason. There are many brand who offer limited edition items where a part or the profit will go to a campaign or charity. One of those products is the FOREO LUNA Mini. I recently started a collaboration with the brand, not only because I have been loving their products, but also because I wanted to support the Save The Sea campaign. Their special designed facial cleaning device is not only a real must have, but you’ll do good with it as well. And as a present for your support and loyality, FOREO will give you a free beach bag as well while purchasing the LUNA Mini.
I know, it is a long chat again today, but I hope I spread the message I wanted to share. Think about it, download the app and see if you do good or what you can do better. Read about what is going on in the world and check out some campaigns you might like. A special thanks to Amy ter Burg who came with the idea of the plastic shooting and to Rogier who shot these awesome photos who weren’t meant to be beautifully, but convincingly. Because this is what we put on our faces and in the ocean.
Wat een prachtige foto’s Floortje! Het verhaal is ook erg interessant, maar het zijn vooral de fotos die mij als fotograaf erg aanspreken! 🙂 X
Wonderful… mind blowing
Gorgeous photos. Absolutely stunning. Wonderful post about plastics. Great read.
This article was really mind-blowing. Using less plastic and plastic-free-body-products is definitely something to consider more, like you said; it’s not only bad for the fish but also for those who are eating the fish: us. And those photo’s: wow. Just wow.
prachtige foto’s !
sending you much love!
This is really interesting and a great campaign!
Well put! I try my best not to use plastic bags at the grocery store and to recycle my goods. Sometimes I end up forgetting or life gets in the way but it is more important to make it a consistent priority. These photos really are convincing.
I absolutely love the concept! Stunning photos!
Beautiful photos and thanks for spreading the message! I had no idea about microplastics. I’m going to try a lot harder to use less plastic now! I always recycle but I often forget to bring reusable bags to the grocery store.
oh this is so informative..thanks for sharing…oh my God i never knew there are plastics in the things we apply in the body…
let’s save the world…it’s not yet too late..let’s keep going!
What beautiful and haunting photos. Love the last one and the purple one best. I did not know that plastics went into the water from your makeup/wash and back into your own system. I’ll definitely think more about the plastics that I use. Thanks for the PSA 🙂
OMg, these photos are absolutely stunning and they send out a great environmental message, which I am totally adoring 🙂
I’d really love it if we followed each other 🙂

Fantastic and creative post. You really get the message across with these pictures. Thanks for this informative post. I will definitely install the platsics app. I just recently started using an ecosystemic moisturizer and i am loving it. 🙂
I try as hard as I can to by only natural products too, but sometimes you just can’t. I think it’s nice that you participate to the project. And thanks for the tip about the app Platics!
Have a nice weekend baby
Stunning photos and I love the idea of reducing plastic even more! I think there’s not enough attention for this huge problem, so it’s great you’re covering this topic.
Are you familiar with photographer Chris Jordan’s Midway project? In this project he singles out the albatross and how it’s being affected by all the plastic waste roaming around. His photos are both beautiful and disturbing: http://www.chrisjordan.com/gallery/midway/#CF000313%2018×24. Thought you might find it interesting as well.
Keep up the good work!
These photos are incredible and what a great cause! I’ve only recently found out about the ‘microplastics’ in wash products too- it’s so scary what it’s doing to the environment
This is so beautiful!
This is a wonderful different application for plastic!
