Sunglasses, another addiction of mine. Happily I have a good excuse to buy them: my eyes are so light that I can barely go out on a sunny day without my sunnies. But did you also know how important it is to wear good sunglasses? And by this I don’t mean some fun frames at H&M or Primark, but the brands who know how to take care of our eyes and protect them from the damaging UV-light. Now when summer is coming close and everybody is enjoying the outside life again, I thought it would be good to share a more informative post on this Sweet Sunday, talking about sunglasses and okay, showing you my collection as well including my latest purchase!
In the European law is written that good sunglasses need to filter at least 380nm. This is a minimum of UV that your eyes can handle. When sunnies do filter this they always have a CE-mark on the classes self or in the inside of the frame, including a number from 0 to 4. The number 0 is good for cloudy weather but doesn’t protect your eyes while 4 is all for super sunny weather and a lot of reflection, with skiing for example. As you see, the higher the number the better the protection. The most common number is 2 which is a good protection for everyday wear. With that being said I can highly suggest only buying glasses with this mark. But why? Well, we all know how bad UV is for our skin, but it’s the same for our eyes. It can damage the cornea which can take our sight in the long run. Even at night, when our pupils get bigger, your eye kinda soaks in all the sunlights that’s left. You can imagine that this will fasten the process of damaging your eye..
Now we know what we have to look for, but with all these colored glasses it’s hard to choose the right one. So here are some tips and facts you need to know when buying glasses:
Grey glasses: These are the most neutral ones. They reduce the bright light without changing colors. This type will be recommend to farsighted people.
Brown glasses: This type blurs out the colors a little bit and reduce the blinding sunlight. It seems to be that this is good for nearsighted people.
Yellow glasses: Yellow tempers the blue UV light which is perfect for riding car on a cloudy day. It’s better than brown because it also gives more contrast to subjects.
Green glasses: Reduce the blinding effect of the sun and filters a part of the blue light (such as the yellow one does). They give a good contrast between subjects but are highly discouraged by colorblind people.
Pink glasses: Offer a good contrast between the blue light or bright green backgrounds. Perfect for winter sports or being at the water a lot.
Polarized glasses: These are the best for winter- or water sports. Flat surfaces such as water, glass, snow or a wet road reflect horizontal and vertical light waves. Polarized glasses filter these waves without talking the real colors. This type is also really useful for people who just had a eye surgery or who can barely handle a lot of light (like me).
So I guess you better think twice when buying a sunglasses after reading this. What kind of sunglasses do you think you need? Let me know in the comments!
Your sunglasses collection is impressive. I really need to get a new pair of sunnies for summer. I think I’ll treat myself to a pair with green lenses.

You’re always beautiful, love them all!! 🙂
I read a long time ago that wearing sunglasses that don’t have the UV protection is even worse then not wearing them at all. So yes, I do prefer to buy one pair that actually protects my eyes then a few fashionable ones that don’t 🙂 I love your collection! x
Lovely sunnies collection! Thanks for those awesome tips 🙂
