During the years of working and blogging, I have done many meetings and events, and something you may not now which is doing recruitment myself. Yes, I have been the one who has been hiring people for a few months for a company. Anyway, during these months of doing job interviews and years of present myself to brands, I learned a lot on how to make a great first impression, and these are exactly the tips I want to share with you today. Because why should a company hire you? Why are you better than the rest and how to blow them away from the first moment you walked in?
CONFIDENCE
Let’s start with a simple word, which is actually oh so hard. Confidence. A person with the right amount of confidence is a person with a good attitude. Believe me when I say that when you have confidence – in other words; believe in yourself – you can beat the world. But also, fake it to you make it. I might sound like a person who is very satisfied with herself, but of course I am not a 100% confident as well. But as long as I believe in myself and tell myself that I’m cool, talented and nice, I can make other believe it as well. And that’s how it work. If you fake that little bit of confidence and work hard enough to make it all happen, you will make it in the end.
HEAD, HEELS AND STANDARDS HIGH
This is a saying I once read and would like to share with you today. My parents always taught me to walk straight, so that’s were the head is coming from. Keep your shoulders straight and chin up to make yourself taller. Really, this works for the perfect confidence walk. Second, heels. What I actually mean by this, is that you should wear something to impress. Pick an outfit that they will remember (in a good way of course). NEVER wear a ripped jeans – unless you’re applying for a job at a jeans store -, don’t go too naked and avoid boring suits. Try to do something unexpected. Wear a printed scarf with your suit or go for a colorful pullover. And okay, heels work too. At last, your standards. Know what you’re worth and what you can offer them. Don’t go for less if you are worth more. Dare to negotiate about what they have to offer you, this will definitely make a good impression if you do it nicely and respectful.
THE STRONG HAND AND SMILE
If I had to say one thing that can really, but really really, disenchanted me from a person, it would be a limp handshake. I literally get goosebumps all over my body and are immediately done with a person when I get one. Yes, I am very sensitive for that. No matter if you’re a new client, business partner or my brother’s new girlfriend, I won’t like you from the first moment I get a weak hand. Might sound hard and it actually is. That’s why you have to make sure you always – really ALWAYS – give a strong and motivated handshake. You’re a strong person with a strong personality, show that. I often hear that I have a male handshake and I’m proud of that. At last, don’t forget to smile. If you enter a room with a big and honest smile the work is already half done.
Totally agree with all of your tips! I really love your turtleneck!! I have been doubting it, but then I decided to choose the orange one (http://bagatyou.com/polette-prescription-glasses/)! Anyways, you look stunning as always and love your shoes and bag as well! Xx Susanne – http://bagatyou.com
Confidence is one ingredient we should never lack.. The way you carry yourself, speaks volumes..
